Chavez is Too Strong for Martinez: Roach
WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (45-0-1, 31 KOs) and mandatory challenger for his title of Sergio Martinez (2/2/49, 28 KOs) reached a tentative agreement, and now they can go for fight on 15th September in Las Vegas. Prior to this, on June 16th in El Paso, son of the legend may conduct a voluntary defense of his title.
“I’d like to meet with Argentinian Julio – said Freddie Roach, trainer of Chavez Jr. – Sergio looked bad in the last battle with McLean. In the end, he achieved the victory, but still allows your opponent too much. Let us hope that soon he will fight with Chavez. With each performance in Martinez, more and more fans. It’s a great athlete. I do not think he is a great fighter, but he certainly is a good athlete. He has a strong impact and is quick on his feet, but I think that Chavez would still be too strong for him.”
Roach added that even more committed to a fight with another young Mexican star – Saulem Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KOs), who is currently preparing for a fight in May, with Shane Mosley (01/07/46, 39 KOs). Coach Pacquiao, Khan and Chavez Jr. wants to fight with Canelo, but understands how difficult it is to convince the Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank to organize this meeting.
